DESIGN BRIEF - To design a stool that uses pressed plywood as the hero material - things to remember - for small studio spaces - must be modular.
CHALLENGE - Pressed plywood is time consuming to manufacture, and every cast is made-to-order. This would really hike up the budget, so the challenge was to find something that was already being manufactured - but wasn't patented - and re-purpose it in a modular fashion.
PROCESS - The only part that I could find that fit our requirements, was an armrest for a very old style of patio chairs commonly seen in south India. After figuring out the technicalities, I came down to a flatpack design, one that would only require one key to assemble, and could be stackable. Here are the final design renders:
